We will be closing Early on July 22nd in order to do our yearly big clean.  Everyday we scrub this place from floor to ceiling, but on Sunday we want to have a little more time to really make this place shine.

PLEASE BE AWARE THAT KENNEL COUGH DOES NOT ORIGINATE IN A KENNEL, IT IS TYPICALLY BROUGHT IN WITH AN INFECTED DOG WHO IS ALREADY IN THEIR INCUBATION PERIOD WHICH COULD BE ANYWHERE FROM 7-10 DAYS.  DURING THE INCUBATION PERIOD, DOGS TYPICALLY  DO NOT SHOW ANY SYMPTOMS SO THERE IS NO WAY FOR US HERE AT THE PAW STOP TO DETECT IT.  FURTHER, KENNEL COUGH IS EASILY SPREAD WHEN DOGS ARE AROUND OTHER DOGS (LIKE KIDS AT CAMP OR SCHOOL) AS IS THE CASE IN DOGGIE DAYCARE.  WE HAVE BEEN FORTUNATE HERE AS THIS IS ONLY OUR SECOND OUTBREAK IN OVER 1 YEAR IN BUSINESS.  CONSIDERING THE NUMBER OF DOGS THAT COME THROUGH HERE, THAT IS QUITE AN ACCOMPLISHMENT.  WE OWE THAT TO OUR EXCELLENT AIR HANDLING SYSTEMS, A VERY THOUROUGH CLEANING ROUTINE, AND OUR CARING AND ATTENTIVE STAFF.  HOWEVER GREAT THESE THINGS ARE IT IS STILL UNFORTUNATE THAT THERE IS NOTHING ELSE WE CAN DO TO STOP THIS FROM HAPPENING.  WE FEEL VERY SORRY FOR THE DOGS THAT HAVE CONTRACTED THE VIRUS.  WE WISH THEM A SPEEDY RECOVERY.  AS YOU ALL KNOW, AS A POLICY HERE, SHOULD WE SEE ANYTHING THAT IS OUT OF THE ORDINARY WITH YOUR DOG THEN WE WILL ISOLATE THEM, CONTACT YOU, AND THEN IMMEDIATELY TAKE THEM TO THE VET.  WE WILL ALWAYS DO OUR BEST TO TAKE THE BEST CARE OF YOUR DOGS AND MAKE SURE THAT THEY ARE RETURNED TO YOU HAPPY AND HEALTHY. 

IF YOU ARE TO SEE ANYTHING THAT IS OUT OF THE ORDINARY WITH YOUR DOG'S HEALTH, PLEASE IMMEDIATELY CONTACT YOUR VETERINARIAN AND AS A COURTESY LET US KNOW AS WELL.  OUR POLICIES ALSO STATE THAT WE WILL NOT ADMIT ANY DOG WHO IS SHOWING SIGNS OF BEING SICK AND IS CONTAGIOUS TO OTHER DOGS.

UPDATE 7/30/07

Unfortunately our luck in getting rid of this nasty outbreak of Kennel Cough that has plagued our store has been shortlived.  Two more cases have been reported just today.  We have appreciated your continued support and understanding as well as your diligence in watching and listening for any signs of it.  We are certainly trying our very best to work with you to get this completely resolved.  As a last resort, we have considered and are still considering closing the store temporarily.  However, Veterinarians have different opinions as to the effectiveness of this strategy as dogs in their most contagious stages of Kennel Cough do not show any systems.  So ultimately, just as in the case of this outbreak, a dog could bring it in to our store undetected.  By the time that you or we recognize it, they may have passed it along to another uninfected dog.  Once they do show symptoms, they are already building up the necessary antibodies to fight off the infection.  In essense, we are stuck between a rock and hard place as we want to return your dog to you healthy and happy but we are not exactly sure how to get rid of this Kennel Cough outbreak completely.  We have followed all the neccessary protocols for this type of outbreak, but apparently that still is not good enough.  We are willing to try anything and everything and therefore we will again consult our Veterinary advisors and let you know our course of action in the next couple of days.  Please check back via the website or by telephone.  Thanks for your continued patience and understanding. 

We will continue to adhere to our policy that we will not admit any dogs who are showing signs of being sick with anything or we will isolate them if they are already in our care.  Unfortunately there are no guarantees that your dog will not get sick while in our care again, but we are hopeful that with your participation we can minimize any potential threats.  You all know that we are doing everything we possibly can by communicating with and educating you, diligently monitoring your dogs, fanatically cleaning our facility and equipment, and properly handling your pets.  In addition we do have exceptionally good air handling systems.  We conduct ourselves in this manner and have these things at our disposal everyday, but in the end, there is nothing that we can do to prevent something like this from happening.  Ultimately, as in the case of this outbreak, a sick dog may enter our facility undetected (i.e. not showing any signs of being sick) and infect dogs that he plays with, but we hope that you all feel that the risk of contracting something is outweighed by the loving and attentive manner is which we care for your dogs day in and day out.  Of course, all of the energy they burn off here probably helps as well.  We hope to see you all back soon!
